• 10/23/09:

Tower: Abatement continued on floors 12,13 and 14 with bulk removal of asbestos fireproofing completed and continued cleaning of residual fireproofing. Preparation of floors 15, 16 and 17 for abatement has begun with construction of asbestos abatement containments.
Mall: Abatement in the southwest corner began on October 19, 2009 with the removal of asbestos fireproofing, pipe insulation and fittings. Preparation continues for abatement with containment construction in the southeast. Interior demolition of Mall’s decorative structures has started.
McCurdy's:
Soft demolition activities are ongoing in various areas of the building, including the basement. Major soft demolition activities have been completed on floors 1- 6. A debris chute installation has begun.

Euclid: Soft demolition activities continue throughout the building.
Work Force Update: The current work force is at 113. Continued increases in the workforce are expected throughout the coming weeks and months.
Sub contractors: Royal Environmental of Rochester will mobilize to the site within the next week.

• 10/13/09:

Tower: Abatement work consisting of asbestos fireproofing removal is ongoing on floors 12, 13 and 14. Soft demolition activities are completed, with the exception of floors 3, 18 and 19.

Mall: Major soft demolition activities are completed in the mall areas. The installation of hard walls for future containment work areas is ongoing. Abatement work area construction has started in the southeast and southwest corners.

McCurdy's: Soft demolition activities are completed from floors 6 to 3, with ongoing work on the 2nd floor.

Euclid Building: Electrical work, which consists of de-energizing the building and installing temporary power, is currently being performed to prepare the building for abatement.

Work Force: The current work force is at 113 personnel. Cambria and their subcontractors will be adding significant staffing in the coming weeks.

Subcontractors: Marcor Environmental has begun mobilizing to the site and Royal Environmental will be doing the same in the coming weeks. Both Royal and Marcor have Rochester Offices and will employ local labor.

• 10/1/09:

Tower: Abatement work consisting of ceiling system removal continued on floors 12, 13 and 14. Soft demolition activities were completed down to the 5th floor. Soft demolition activities are continuing on the fourth floor.

Mall: Soft demolition activities are ongoing. Mall areas are being prepared for abatement by installing partitions to isolate future abatement work areas.

McCurdy’s: Soft demolition activities on the 6th floor have been completed and are currently ongoing on floors 4 and 5. The removal of non-fixed items and debris in the basement areas has been completed.

Euclid Building: The removal of non-fixed items, debris and universal wastes (i.e. paints, cleaning solutions, electrical components) has been initiated.

Work Force: The current work force is at 99 personnel. Cambria and their subcontractors will be adding significant staffing in the coming weeks.

Subcontractors: Cambria Contracting has reached an agreement with two additional abatement subcontractors, Marcor Environmental and Royal Environmental, both have Rochester Offices and will employ local labor.

• 09/24/09 - Work in the tower included the continuation of asbestos abatement activities on floors 12,13 and 14. Work on these floors included the removal of ceiling systems and plaster walls to access abatement areas. Interior soft demolition and construction and demolition debris removal continued on the other floors of the tower and mall. Cambria also had its elevator repair subcontractor on-site to load test and repair elevators for debris removal operations. In the McCurdy’s Building, Cambria’s subcontractor continued the removal of non-fixed building components and construction debris. Electrical system modifications were also made within the McCurdy’s Building to prepare for upcoming abatement work.

• 09/18/09 - Presentation on Environmental Remediation Process

• 09/18/09 - Cambria established containment of floors 12,13 and 14 and started abatement activities on the 14th floor. The abatement work included the removal of the ceiling system on the entire 14th floor. Ongoing work in the tower included soft demolition activities on the lower floors. Soft demolition and non-asbestos waste removal continued in the Mall area. Significant progress was also made in clearing out non-fixed building components (i.e. cabinets, display cases, fixtures) from the McCurdy’s Building.

• 09/10/09 - Construction of the perimeter fence will begin in approximately two weeks, and the Main & Clinton bus stop will be moved across the street (the Main & Clinton bus stop for Clinton Avenue busses heading north will be moved from the southeast corner to the northeast corner of Main & Clinton). Abatement of McCurdy's and Seneca is about three weeks away as each contractor must develop abatement plans and submit various required documentations. There are approximately 74 workers on site, including 32 from Laborer's Local 435 (inclusive of 4 apprentices). Clarification from previous update: DOL asbestos notification date was Sept 4, but actual asbestos abatement activities on floors 12-14 won't commence until Sept 11, 2009.

• 09/02/09 - Cambria Contracting Inc. will begin asbestos abatement work on floors 12, 13 and 14 of the Midtown Tower on Friday, Sept. 4. These areas represent an isolated portion of the building which will not impact the public. A community briefing on the abatement process will be held in the near future before work proceeds to the common areas of the project. Other preparation progress at the site so far includes demolition and debris removal from the B. Forman Building, as well as at other interior stores in the plaza. In addition, the restaurant and bar areas on the Tower's 14th floor have been gutted and project headquarters have been established at 45 Euclid St.Cambria has selected two subcontractors to perform abatement work on the Seneca and McCurdy buildings, Rochester-based Marcor Remediation, Inc. and Bristol Environmental Inc. out of Bristol, PA. A minimum of fifty percent of the workers (including workers from all subcontractors) are required to be local hires, either through the Laborer's Local 435 or job interviews conducted at the project headquarters site.
